Interview with Collette Cameron, author of The Viscount's Vow

The Viscount's Vow

by Collette Cameron

The Most Happy Reader warmly welcomes, Collette Cameron, the author of The Viscount’s Vow now on tour through cyberspace.

I am truly thankful that I have been given the opportunity to interview Collette and thank her personally for taking the time to interview with The Most Happy Reader.

Now, let's find out more about Collette....

·     How much research do you do?
I write Regency so I do tons of historical research.

I’m a bit of fanatic for historical accuracy and what gets by me is nailed by a couple of my critique partners. I research everything from clothing, food, speech, to what utensils were used for cooking, side saddles, signet rings, pets, soap for bathing...even medicines or jokes of that era.

·        What made you decide to sit down and actually start something?
I had recently completed my Master’s Degree in Teaching and was working part-time as a substitute teacher. My youngest child had just left for college, and I found myself with time on my hands.

I’d toyed with the idea of writing a book for years, but never considered writing a romance novel. Oh, sure, I’d been reading them since I was a teen, but write one?
Never. All that dialogue.
But, one February day in 2011, I parked myself in front of my computer and started tapping out my first book.  Now, it’s safe to day, I’m addicted.

·       Do you write full-time or part-time?
I’ve reduced my teaching a great deal this year so I can focus on writing. I hope to be able to make the transition to full-time writing in the next year or so. As it is, I’m trying to keep my teaching to one or two days a week.  Except, presently, I’m doing a long-term maternity leave. It ends November 1st.  I’m looking forward to starting my fourth book.

·      Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?
No formal outlines for me,  but I do have plot points I know ahead of time. I’m just not sure where they’ll go. I’m what a friend of mine calls a linear pantser. I write beginning to end, but there are surprises along the way.

·      Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?
I do a lot more reading in the summer, but most evenings you can find me with my nose in a book before bed. I adore historical authors who include humor in their books, because I always include humor in mine.  Some of my favorites are Delilah Marvelle, Jenna Jaxon, Amylynn Bright, and Elf Ahearn.
·
For your own reading, do you prefer EBooks or traditional paper/hard back books?
I prefer a book in my hand, though truthfully, I’ve read nothing but ebooks for the past six months. I do have three hardcopy novels waiting though.

·      How can readers discover more about you and you work

Again, many thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down with  The Most Happy Reader.

 Thank you!

    1. I started a maternity leave for a teacher last spring and because of the Family Leave law, she has time off this fall too. This is my last long-term sub job. I'm only going to sub occasionally so I can concentrate on writing.

  4. I really enjoyed reading about your latest book today. I was looking at your cast of characters for the books in this series. Some authors I read will have one character that will make an appearance in all of their books...even those books in other series. For example: Liz Carlyle has a character named George Kemble who appears in eleven of her 22 stories. Have your planned this type of character crossover for your stories?

    1. Hi Karen!
Good question. I do have some characters that have appeared in all three books so far.
