Feature and Follow 3.28.14

Feature and Follow Friday

This week's topic:

Snap it Time! A picture is worth a thousand words. Anything and anything. Just give us a pic.

Well who can pick just one? However, I did limit my photos to my most recent trip to France and to my most favorite district: Montmartre and the resting place of my kindred spirit: Père Lachaise Cemetery, but then I couldn't resist to throw in a few of the catacombs as well. Enjoy!

My Oscar...

                                        (image from tripadvisor.com)

For reasons that are completely unknown to me visitors cover the monument in kisses.  The first time I visited it must have just been cleaned as none were visible.  It was much more peaceful that way.  I love Oscar Wilde I don't understand the kisses, but now the monument is encased in glass (pic on left).  So true fans cannot put their hand near their Oscar anymore.

The inscription from Oscar's Tomb from Wilde’s Ballad of Reading Gaol: ”And alien tears will fill for him/Pity’s long-broken urn,/For his mourners will be outcast men,/And outcasts always mourn.”  When I visited the first time I immediately sobbed as I was and had always been an outcast and somehow Oscar had known all along.  It was so incredibly moving and something I will never forget.

Jim Morrison is the one of the other famous residents whose graves must be protected from the vandalizing homage of "fans".

Feature and Follow #2014.2

Question of the Week: How have your reading habits changed in the past few years? Did you get interested in a new genre? Do you read more? Less? Why do you think your habits changed, if they did.

I have always been a reader, but I noticed that during the final five years of my marriage I hadn't finished a book.  Immediately, after my separation I began reading all I could get my hands on in my favorite genre, historical fiction (an outcropping of my MA in history and love of anything Tudor (that is why Henry and Anne join us below).  However, I have discovered new takes on the genre: such as detective themes (CJ Sansom) and the radical history (more pure fiction, that looks at what might have happened); Truly I love it all.

Reading has been my escape but also the return to myself!

Feature and Follow #2014.1

Feature and Follow Friday (#2014.1)

Resolutions: Put together your blogger resolution list for all of us to see!

1.  Read 100 books this year.  Perhaps push for 150.

2.  Blog regularly - goal:  DAILY
3.  Add more than reviews to my blog… it needs some history, some facts, something.
4.  Complete my challenges; every single one!  And for reasons unknown I signed up for many!
5.  Not finish a book.  Develop the strength to put a book down and walk away.  If it is so painful to read that it makes me wish I couldn't I must just draw a line and walk away.
6.  Read this TBR Pile before it takes over my house.  Let's just say my 5 year old can count to 100 easily.
7.  Post reviews to Goodreads, Netgalley, etc… I'm bad about that!
8.  Keep better records - especially of my library.
9.  Be more organized and efficient with my blog in general.  I always feel I'm running catch up.
10.  Read my love and passion… historical fiction without a doubt!
11.  Comment, Comment, Comment!

It's a blog hop...
