What's on your bookish bucket list??

1.  Tackle my TBR mountain.

2.  Write reviews for books I've read and haven't had time to make my notes intelligible thoughts and then blog the review.

3.  Stop accepting books for review I have no interest in.

4.  Write my own novel... There are several floating about in there.

5.  Create my own meme... I am working on this one.

6.  Branch out with blogging from just reviews...

7.  Catalog my library

8.  Comment more on other's blogs and interact with other bloggers.

9.  Update my challenges which have been neglected since January.

10.  Enjoy a novel without interruption!

Top Ten Goals and Resolutions for 2014

It's Tuesday, and that means its Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!

1.  Read 100 books this year.  Perhaps push for 150.
2.  Blog regularly - goal:  daily
3.  Add more than reviews to my blog… it needs some history, some facts, something.
4.  Complete my challenges; every single one!  And for reasons unknown I signed up for many!
5.  Not finish a book.  Develop the strength to put a book down and walk away.  If it is so painful to read that it makes me wish I couldn't I must just draw a line and walk away.
6.  Read this TBR Pile before it takes over my house.  Let's just say my 5 year old can count to 100 easily.
7.  Post reviews to Goodreads, Netgalley, etc… I'm bad about that!
8.  Keep better records - especially of my library.
9.  Be more organized and efficient with my blog in general.  I always feel I'm running catch up.
10.  Read my love and passion… history more often than not.

This week's Top Ten: Top Ten Turn-offs you encounter while reading

1.  This is going to make me sound like the biggest type A nerd, but it drives me crazy when authors use inappropriate titles for their characters.  For example Princess Elizabeth was not always a Princess, if her title was Lady Elizabeth just call her that.  

2.  I also read a book lately that drove me crazy with the capitalization of titles.  It seemed to me to be bias related rather than historical and it just jumped off the page at me and made me crazy...  For example, in reference to Queen Catherine of Aragon, it was always queen. Other than that annoy trait the book was good, but good lord that capitalization drove me bananas.

3.  Female characters that lack all common sense... For example, I saw my betrothed in the broom closet with my sister and she looked like she had beard burn, but surely no. Good grief, open your eyes for the love of God!

4.  The happy ending, when every single thing gets all tied up, everyone is happy, blah, blah, blah...

5.  Desperate, whining narrators, case in point, Amy Robsart Dudley.  I wanted to shake her, she was just so desperate, how could any man, especially him find anything sexually appealing about her.

6.  Novels that go nowhere.  I can think of a few by one author that just left me dumbstruck as to why I had wasted my time waiting for her to get to the point and she never ever did.

7.  I want females that help/save themselves.  Characters with some spunk. I do not enjoy reading about waiting for a man, any man, to come and put this poor girls life right or worse to just look her way in the hope he will want to marry her.  I want female characters who solve their own problems no matter what century.

8. Historical Fiction that has no basis in history whatsoever.  If, for example, Jane existed why call her Anne?  It serves no purpose.  Why change what so many already know.

9.  Would it kill authors to think outside the box?  Why just leave certain figures to the bland existence they have always occupied?  Kate Emerson is excellent at bringing marginal figures to life.

10.  Combo:  Bad Cover and/or bad editing...

I have made a mid-year resolution... to start participating in memes!  I cannot say why I have waited so long or really why I feel the need to begin now, but I am looking forward to connecting with other bloggers and having some fun with the blog at the same time.

Top Ten Tuesday: #1 

Top Ten Best and Worst Movie Adaptations

BEST

1. Bridget Jones’ Diary I laughed out loud reading and watching… the film and the book coexist in perfect harmony.

2. The Outsiders FAB, FAB, FAB; but you knew that didn’t you?

3. To Kill A Mockingbird (The actors spot on portrayal of the dynamic characters of the novel and really makes it impossible not to picture Vivian Leigh and Marlon Brando when you next read the novel or really even think of it. 

4. The Age of Innocence This required a second watch for me after a refresher read of the novel and after that the film was so subtlety brilliant it was a retreat back into another time.  The actor's, especially Michelle Pfeiffer Daniel Day-Lewis, have amazing chemistry and both give amazing performances.

5. Gone With the Wind In my heart this will always be the best adaptation but cut me some slack – I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. Honestly, could anyone dream up a more amazing cast: Leigh, Gable and Hattie McDaniel; hell, even Leslie Howard as Ashley annoys me within an inch of my life despite my habitual viewing of the film.

WORST

1. The Other Boleyn Girl I truly looked forward to this film and while I disagree with Gregory’s characterization of Anne Boleyn, the novel was enjoyable; the film, not so much.

2. The Da Vinci Code Too much book for a film; For me it just didn’t hold up to detailed layers of the mystery Brown presents in the novel, but to be honest I don't think anyone could have done much better. The plot just moved too fast for film.

3. The Scarlett Letter DISASTER!!

4. Flowers in the Attic I admit it.  I read the entire series.  

5. Atonement I have to admit, I went looking for a fifth film for the worst and as soon as I saw the title I had to add it to my list. Perhaps I just forget about the bad ones!
